The Age of Trauma

Depression? Pah!  Luxury!

Let's talk about trauma.

SOUTH AFRICA

I am not a native to Africa. My ancestors come from Ireland and Scotland via Lesotho.  Not everyone is a refugee, but everyone is dealing with everyone's refugees, and although I am more of a deposit left by ancestors who came to build and ... and died leaving the offspring here in South Africa, I feel like a bit of refugee in some senses, not right for here, but not right for anywhere else.

What to do with the likes of me?   I am certainly more African than I am European.

South Africa struggles on with issues that are overwhelming for everyone and the privilege of voting serves little comfort when elected leaders act like looters, careless with the lives of citizens, regardless of colour or creed.

Crime and corruption filter from the top, down, into every area of public life.   There is the danger of having one's welfare affected by such corruption and crime, clearly tolerated by the government.

The number of immigrants in South Africa seems to be unknown. What is certain is that the numbers given by officials are wrong, and corruption inside Home Affairs is rife.

At least one man, (according to an anonymous comment made on an article on Africa Check's page) was asked in 2015 to pay R5000,00 by officials for refugee status. He refused,  But, now, he says, (12th December 2017), has too many problems with them.  He wanted to remain anonymous.   We have no way of knowing what happened to him since then

By the Grace of the Lord, our nation prays, loves and serves.

THE WORLD

On June 20th, 2018, Vox reported that there were 68.5 million forcibly displaced people in the world, according to ... which included refugees of all descriptions, with 6.3 million of those from Syria.

AMERICA

According to a reporter for The Washington Post on 31 August 2018, there are 497 children, in America, still separated from their parents, some of whom have been deported without being reunited with their children, and of these 497 children, there are 22 children younger than 5 years of age.

This story has died in the face of the ever-increasing crisis that humans face in every country from one end of the trauma spectrum to the extreme opposite end of the scale.  What has happened to those 22 children?

Is anyone tracking them for their benefit?

YEMEN

The Guardian reports that 85 000 children have died of starvation in Yemen, where someone is counting, at least counting, the cost of the "neglected war" (whatever that means) war.  (November 2018).

The war in Yemen is ignored, it can be stopped, but watching the videos, those doctors and nurses don't believe the war will.  Why is there a war?

"What crime have we committed?" one man asks.

It is a civil war. It involves many players. The Kingdom of Saudia Arabia launched a war in Yemen.

"The objective is to defend the legitimate government of President Hadi and prevent the country from falling into the hands of the Houthis," "a tribal people," "who ten years ago were part of 2011 uprising," but they do not have any good press either, and it is hard for the casual viewer to tell what it is all about.   [quotes from a youtube video/RT}

As an aside, the USS Cole was bombed (by no one named) in October 2000, off the coast of Yemen,

The conflict in Yemen is thought to be as a result of violence and civil war since 2011.  The Saudi led, American backed forces bomb Yemen.  This coalition does not want negotiation. They want unconditional surrender from the Houthis.

At first glance, one thinks, "the poor Houthis," but then one reads the report from Associated Press: "Ex Inmates: Torture rife in prisons run by Yemen's Houthi Rebels."  The story is horrific.

Worldwide violence engaged in by humans of all descriptions against other humans seems to be more nightmarish than before, but perhaps I've been living in la la land all my life.   Humans have become desensitized and the horror some humans experience is just incomprehensible - and then they don't die.

The not so obvious coalition member is the American private mercenary group called Academi; (which has morphed since 1997 - )  Jason Bourne stuff. A subsidiary group called International Development Services received large contracts for security guard services.  Curiously, they are owned by private investors.  They protect government and private facilities and obviously do a good enough job to attract investors with special interests.  Since 2014 it falls under the Constellis Holdings Inc. umbrella, according to Wikipedia.

QUOTE  with footnotes FROM WIKIPEDIA

On January 30, 2009, the State Department told Blackwater Worldwide that it will not renew its contract in Iraq.[157] However, in 2010 it was awarded a $100 million contract from the CIA.[112]

QUOTE ENDS

The writers of The Ugly American must be irked.

Our state of being is, in my opinion, traumatic.   Everything traumatises us, from the news to the movies we watch, not forgetting the unfolding global natural disaster events.  The lack of certainty in the future of our governments, the constant rising cost of living and personal losses of loved ones and/or homes.   Fires everywhere and floods, earthquakes and now a monster snowstorm is forecasted.

And then, then there is rage, everywhere.

For my sanity, I go to the Rabbis who seem to know the nature of God, and who understand the Zohar which has become my handbook for life.   For your edification I share a video, may you find solace there too.
